Mahurangi West Pest Group began as a pest control work group comprising some 200 properties in the area known as Mahurangi West and including Hungry Creek Road. The group was formed to develop and implement a plan for controlling invasive plant and animal species, in line with Pest Free Auckland guidelines, across the now 3,500 ha project area.

Mahurangi West Pest, incorporated as a society in 2021, and is made up of volunteers bringing together a diverse array of backgrounds and experience to:

  • Control invasive plant and animal species is through the development of a long tern sustainable control program.

  • To achieve a substantial reduction of invasive plant and animal species the program will be maintained long-term.

  • Re-establish healthy native bush and thriving native wildlife. Our vision revolves around people. To achieve this mission, we bring together and maintain a group of dedicated volunteers.

Our vision:

Recruit, Train, Equip, Motivate and Support a sustainable long-term community team of volunteers.

Mahurangi West Pest operates on the principle of “many hands make light work” to avoid anyone feeling burdened by their involvement. We believe small but sustained contributions of your time will ensure the success and continuity of this project
